Paraeducator Certificate
Program Overview
We value our paraeducators as critical for the success of our students. We want to invest in our paraeducators by providing professional development to enhance their practice. Now, through a new state program, we have funding for paraeducator training and certification.
The Paraeducator Certificate Program is a standards-based training program required by the state for all paraeducators. It creates a career growth ladder for those who wish to advance as a paraeducator or pursue the teaching profession.
Requirements
All paraeducators must earn the certification to continue working in Highline. To earn the Paraeducator Certificate, paraeducators must complete 28 hours of professional development
- Current paraeducators must complete the first 14 hours by June 2020.
- Paraeducators must complete the remaining 14 hours during the 2020-21 school year.
Curriculum
Course choice must align with the Fundamental Course of Study (FCS), developed by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction. Read more about FCS.
