We value our paraeducators as critical for the success of our students. We want to invest in our paraeducators by providing professional development to enhance their practice. Now, through a new state program, we have funding for paraeducator training and certification.
The Paraeducator Certificate Program is a standards-based training program required by the state for all paraeducators. It creates a career growth ladder for those who wish to advance as a paraeducator or pursue the teaching profession.
All paraeducators must earn the certification to continue working in Highline. To earn the Paraeducator Certificate, paraeducators must complete 28 hours of professional development
- Current paraeducators must complete the first 14 hours by June 2020.
- Paraeducators must complete the remaining 14 hours during the 2020-21 school year.
Course choice must align with the Fundamental Course of Study (FCS), developed by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction. Read more about FCS.
