The PreK & Elementary Success team is committed to providing systems and structures to support our youngest learners and their families. This includes promoting kindergarten readiness through increased access to quality early learning programs, aligned instructional practices and professional development, and opportunities for authentic family engagement.

Kathy Emerick

Kathy Emerick, Director, PreK & Elementary Success

Kathy provides direct supervision of, and vision for, all elements of curriculum and instruction, PreK-5th grade. She ensures that teachers, schools, and community members have the professional learning and resources they need to support high-level student learning and that families have access to rigorous early learning programs and resources.  Lynda Benthin

Lynda provides administrative support, ensuring that students and school staff have the resources they need. Lynda is also the administrative secretary for Secondary Success, College and Career Readiness.

Marisa Gaalema

Marisa provides vision and expertise in professional learning and more specialized coaching and support in schools. She provides professional learning for all teachers, information about standards-based instruction, and the coordinated work between literacy, language learning and dual language programs.

Elisa Turner

Elisa Turner, Early Learning Liaison and ECEAP Program Manager

Elisa provides coordination and support around community partnerships, family engagement, and early learning programs. Elisa coordinates Highline’s new program for families, Families and Teachers Working Together and supports the Early Learning Leadership team as they provide community collaboration. Kristin Alfonzo

Kristin Alfonzo, Early Learning Specialist

Kristin provides expertise and support for formal professional learning and more specialized coaching and support in schools, PreK-3rd grade in both general ed and special ed.  Contact Kristin with questions about WAKIDS implementation, Canvas courses, Capacity Builders, developmental preschool, and transition events. Kristin is also an excellent professional resource for play and social/emotional development in young children.

Erika provides coaching in planning, instruction, and assessment for teachers and school leaders across content, and ensures teachers have the materials they need to meet student needs. She also provides focused support and training in elementary literacy and social studies. Alicia Rodriguez

Alicia Rodriguez, Program Specialist

As a project specialist, Alicia supports college and career access through event support, coordination and collaboration with schools to support high school students in making informed decisions about the future they choose.

Alicia also supports Team Read through recruitment, hiring and training of teen coaches who work with our elementary readers.
