Based on feedback from staff, students, families and leaders, as well as guidance from OSPI, we have selected learning platforms for our hybrid model, which includes in-person instruction and distance learning. (Highline Virtual Academy will be on a different platform, to be decided.)
Our goal is to decrease the number of learning platforms that we are using to make it easier for students and families to access digital instruction and learning opportunities. This also gives staff tools to support learning both within the classroom and in distance learning.
Starting in Fall 2020, we are requiring all classroom teachers to use the following learning platforms:
- PreK - 5th grade: Seesaw
- 6th - 12th grade: Google Classroom
In addition, all centrally based professional learning will use Canvas, with clear links and connections to Seesaw and Google Classroom as appropriate.
As we implement in the fall, we will continue to learn together and identify the successes of the learning platforms, as well as any barriers. We understand the value of making a choice and staying with it; however, through our joint learning, we will determine if we will stay with these platforms long-term or explore other possibilities. Training will be provided to school and central office staff to ensure that we build the skills and proficiency to plan and deliver meaningful instruction.
