The Fundamental Course of Study Certificate requirement is reaching its two-year deadline since it was implemented in 2019. This means that all paras need to have completed the 28 hours of the FCS by June 30, 2021.
There are important steps for paras to take to finalize your completion of the FCS. Here is a quick start guide for your next steps.
This information has been shared with paraeducators in multiple formats over the last several weeks. Building administrators can support staff by sharing this information and assisting as needed.
Paras can stop by one of the remaining weekly drop-ins hosted by the para-cert team. Because of the large influx of emails to the para-cert team, we encourage trying to troubleshoot before emailing.

Para Certification 2021-22
For paraeducators who have completed the FCS, the next required step is to complete the general paraeducator certificate, which is 70 clock hours.
Paraeducators can take any courses that offer clock hours. These are the same clock hours that teachers earn. Starting next year, we encourage schools and all PD offerings to include clock hours for paraeducators in PD offerings throughout the school year. We will provide more information this fall on how the district will support paras in attaining this certificate.
All new paraeducators will have to complete both the FCS and the general certification. For new paraeducators, the 28 hours of the FCS will be available asynchronously on Canvas and will be found on Frontline PD calendar. Building administrators can support new paraeducators by helping them identify time during the work week to do the FCS.
