What a great role model for teacher wellness: Calvin Allan, a 6th-grade teacher at Glacier Middle School, used the summer to challenge himself by walking to all 33 schools in Highline Public Schools.
I’m fortunate to live in the district I teach in. This fact gives me so many opportunities to engage in the issues my students & their families care about. With that, I’m giving myself a #HighlineChallenge. Now till the start of the school year I am going to walk to each school site in Highline Public Schools. This will let me learn & explore more about the district I teach in. Plus, walking is a great way to reduce stress which, let’s face it, we all need. Mr. Allan on Twitter
Starting with Glacier Middle School and ending with the rising Highline High School in Burien, Calvin walked over 50 miles in July and August and visited each and every school (and school site). He took pictures, tagged schools and shared fun facts on social media, and became even more familiar with the schools and communities he serves. And he is healthier for it!
"The biggest takeaway for me was: there are great community resources and organizations that schools and teachers can partner with that are close to their school sites. Opening the door for so many opportunities for students and families alike!," Calvin said.
