Please pack all K-5 Math in Focus materials and return to Jami Haskin for surplus and redistribution at the end of June. Consult the May 24 Admin Packet for detailed information about returning Math-in-Focus materials.
Here is a list of manipulatives included with the Math-in-Focus adoption. Please only return manipulatives included with the Math in Focus adoption, not school-purchased materials or items purchased through the Gates or Boeing grants.
If you have an excess of snap cubes, pattern blocks or 1" square plastic tiles at your school, those may be sent to Jami Haskin. They can be used to create new kits that align with the newly-adopted SFUSD Core Math Curriculum.
The new SFUSD Core Math Curriculum will include:
- Printed Teacher Editions
- Bound, 3-hole-punched student materials with perforated pages
- Manipulatives kits (including plastic sleeves to hold Learning Station materials in grades K-2)
Teacher materials will be given out at the August K-5 Math Institutes. Student materials and manipulatives will be sent directly to schools in mid-August.
K-5 Math Overview Session
This session will introduce teachers (including Dual Language Spanish/Vietnamese, LRC, EBC, and IAC teachers) and specialists to the SFUSD Core Math Curriculum. This 2.5-hour K-5 session will orient attendees to the pedagogy and structure of the online materials. Attendees will receive compensation for attending. This session does not take the place of the comprehensive Math Institutes offered in August. Materials will not be available for our June session. However, teachers will have the opportunity to review and access materials online. The same information will be covered at both sessions.
These 5-hour sessions will launch the SFUSD Core Math Curriculum. With district partners from the Silicon Valley Math Initiative (SVMI), teachers will engage with classroom videos, experience classroom routines and dive into lesson design and tasks to prepare for implementation of the new math materials in their classrooms. Because the Math Institutes are not part of school DID days, attendees will be offered compensation and clock hours for attending.
Teachers (including Dual Language Spanish/Vietnamese, LRC, EBC, and IAC teachers) and specialists should attend on the designated day for their grade level. Kindergarten teachers who are involved with Jump Start at their schools should attend a special session on Wednesday afternoon, August 21.
For teachers who do not attend the Institute for their grade band, teacher materials will be sent directly to schools. A K-5 makeup session will be offered on Friday, August 30.
