Join the Multilingual Advisory Committee

To gather input and hear feedback from stakeholders, we have established the Highline Multilingual Advisory Committee. The Multilingual Advisory Committee will provide sustained stewardship and guidance for bilingual/biliteracy work beyond any one specific decision or topic.

To gather input and hear feedback from stakeholders, we have established the Highline Multilingual Advisory Committee (MAC). Our bold strategic plan goal of all students becoming bilingual/biliterate calls us to continue innovating and strengthening our programming to support all students with this goal. The Multilingual Advisory Committee will provide sustained stewardship and guidance for bilingual/biliteracy work beyond any one specific decision or topic.

Interested in serving as a member? Please read the information below, and fill out the Highline Multilingual Advisory Committee interest form. First review of individuals interested in serving on the committee will be on October 29.

Purpose

The Highline Multilingual Advisory Committee serves to provide input on the following:

  • Programming managed by the Language Learning Department

  • Programming across departments related to the Bilingual goal

  • Short- and long-term strategic planning to ensure programming supports all students reaching the bilingual goal

Members

Members will be selected by a small committee led by the director(s) of Language Learning and will include:

  • 8 teachers:

    • 1 - Elementary English Language (EL) program focus

    • 1 - Secondary EL program focus

    • 1 - Elementary Dual Language (DL) program

    • 1 - Secondary DL program

    • 1 - Special Education program

    • 1 - Secondary World Language program

    • 2 - at-large teachers 

 

  • 2+ community members

  • 2 principals (at least 1 DL)

  • Elementary

  • Secondary

  • 2 bilingual paraeducators

  • 1 central office staff 

  • Language Learning Specialist Team

Structure

  • Three 90-minute meetings throughout the year

  • For 2021-22, meetings will be held on December 9, February 10 and April 21 from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.

  • Certificated and Classified non-admin staff will be compensated for their time at MAC meetings.
