Al Haynes, who served as Highline’s stadium announcer for almost 40 years, has died. He also served the local baseball community as an umpire and youth baseball as an announcer. Al was honored at the 2015 Highline Scholar-Athlete Banquet and received a WSSAAA Commendation Award.
As an airline pilot, Al was captain of United Flight 232 during a crash landing in Sioux City, Iowa in 1989. His calm demeanor, leadership, and expertise made it possible to land a plane with no flight controls and save 185 of the 296 people on board. He gave over 1,700 talks about this experience around the world with all proceeds going to charity.

A memorial service for Al will be on Saturday, October 5 at New Life Church Renton Campus, 15711 152nd Ave SE, Renton. The service will start at 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
