All Chromebooks, except for the G1 14" HP Chromebook, will be getting an update. The update is fully supported by the state testing portal, and it will enable the required autocomplete of @g.highlineschools.org when logging into a Chromebook.
If you have a G1 14" HP Chromebook, it will no longer support any OS updates. We use many of these outdated Chromebooks in schools for common spaces, offices and as loaners during repair of student devices. This does not mean that the hardware fails to operate or is unusable. Rather, these devices may not be usable for some of our third-party software applications or assessment tools.
Google regularly updates its operating system. Often, these updates create a more robust use of the device. Sometimes these changes are indicative of Google's end-of-life process for hardware.
Chromebooks that are purchased through the district process have the maximum age span possible when purchased. This means the hardware will receive updates for up to six years. After that window, the hardware will no longer accept operating system updates. Again, this does not mean that the hardware fails to operate or is unusable. It just may not be usable for some of our third-party software applications or assessment tools.
