Whole Child Catalogue

This catalogue contains strategies to support the whole child while in distance learning, hybrid and in person. The strategies are separated into three areas: student engagement, family engagement and social emotional learning. These strategies can be stand-alone strategies or can be incorporated into the instructional day.

OBJECTIVE

Creating and fostering an ongoing sense of community and connection. This allows for opportunities for joy, celebrations, healing, connection and belonging. This also can create a sense of familiarity to things that happen during in-person learning.

OBJECTIVE

 Knowing every student by Name Strength & Need. Every student will have a trusted adult that builds a genuine relationship throughout the school year. Each student will have an adult connection (assigned staff member) that will provide weekly 1-1 check-ins. These check-ins are intended to help students know that they matter and are seen. They are not intended to be check-ins on academic progress etc or a “check-up” on a student.

The purpose of this strategy is to provide staff with an understanding principles of trauma and resilient adaptation, their effects on teaching and learning, and how to build strategies to buffer against its impacts and thrive (resilient adaptation) during remote teaching and learning.

The purpose of this strategy is to prioritize new, intentional ways to connect with the families of our students to create open lines of communication and promote student success and well-being. A big focus will be on learning what the hopes and dreams of our families are for their students in efforts to support and promote success.

The purpose of this strategy is for teachers to connect with the families prior to the start of school to build an ongoing positive relationship with the family.

To introduce students & families to the role of the adult connection and how it will support students social emotional/academic success, provide logistics for distance learning and start building relationships with families.

   The purpose of this strategy is to find out what the needs of the student/family are in order to better support them. This will help families and students to stay engaged in learning.
