Secondary Support Roles

The charts below summarize key roles and responsibilities in support of our Distance Learning Plan. More details on timelines and specific points of contact will be made available in future communication.

Access to Devices
Central Office Role Schedule opportunities to ensure all learners have access to a device.
Schoolwide Role led by Administrator

Assist in assessing need for access. Identify a point person for ongoing technology needs.

PLC/Teacher Role in Alignment with Schoolwide Agreements

Check in on families who are not responding electronically, to determine any technology needs.
Student/Family Role Use available technology to prioritize communicating with teacher and completing assigned work.

Instructional Activities/Assignments

Central Office Role

Identify/Communicate priority standards for the courses most commonly taught; provide general guidance for other courses. Identify/Communicate existing instructional resources to support learning priorities (i.e., identified units, lessons, and activities).

Schoolwide Role led by Administrator

Establish structure for regular teacher team meetings to plan for instruction. Establish predictable schedule for assignments and due dates and communicate to families (e.g., all assignments on Mondays, due by the following Monday).

PLC/Teacher Role in Alignment with Schoolwide Agreements

In collaborative teams, meet on a regular basis to identify strategies for the effective delivery of new instruction paired with meaningful assignments designed to demonstrate understanding and mastery of new content and skills. For each course (period), assign one assignment and/or progression of learning to complete on a weekly basis.

Student/Family Role Complete assignments weekly, and “turn in” assignments via identified learning platform (i.e., photos of work samples, upload of assignments, email to teacher, etc.).
Supplemental Practice
Central Office Role

From existing resources, identify/communicate instructional resources to support supplemental learning priorities (i.e., identified units, lessons, and activities). Communicate additional digital learning resources.

PLC/Teacher Role in Alignment with Schoolwide Agreements

Encourage use of supplemental resources in weekly communication.

Student/Family Role

Use supplemental resources as schedule and circumstances allow, while prioritizing weekly assignments from teachers. Complete make-up work assigned prior to March 12.

Learning Platforms: Canvas or Google Classroom

Central Office Role

Provide Professional Learning for teachers. Develop support documents and videos for families.

Schoolwide Role led by Administrator To the extent practicable, streamline use of learning platforms, ideally using only one.

PLC/Teacher Role in Alignment with Schoolwide Agreements

Become proficient with identified learning platform. Use platform weekly. Support students in accessing platform as needed.

Student/Family Role Utilize platform to complete and submit weekly assignments.
Weekly Communication with Class
Central Office Role Provide an initial explanatory statement explaining that schools and teachers will be reaching out on a weekly basis, and that grades will be assigned based on work completed prior to and during the closure.
Schoolwide Role led by Administrator Establish a predictable schedule for communication to families, and common agreements regarding format/content (i.e., celebrations, noticings from previous week’s learning/assignments, etc.).

Develop weekly communication/newsletter and share via Synergy Messenger, pointing to course-specific work in learning platform.
Student/Family Role Families review weekly messages in Synergy.

Review student assignments on at least a weekly basis, and assess progress over time related to relevant standards, using established rubrics and practices.
Student/Family Role Students submit assignments via identified learning platform (i.e., photos of work samples, upload of assignments, email to teacher, etc.).

Central Office Role  
Schoolwide Role led by Administrator Establish system for advisors, or similar structure, to ensure weekly individual check-in with student through an approved communication platform.

PLC/Teacher Role in Alignment with Schoolwide Agreements

Provide students with feedback on submitted work (see above).
Student/Family Role Engage with assigned check-in teacher when they reach out on a weekly basis.

Grading

Central Office Role

Identify grade-level standards for which students will be prioritized for second semester 2019-2020.

Schoolwide Role led by Administrator Ensure teachers are supported in determining grades, following existing practices and making reasonable accommodations for the impact of the closure.

PLC/Teacher Role in Alignment with Schoolwide Agreements

Continue to use existing methods to track student progress. Communicate with students and families following established timelines for students at risk of not earning credit. Submit grades by in Synergy following established timelines.

Student/Family Role Support students with anything needed to complete courses they are at risk of not passing.
Support for Graduating Seniors
Central Office Role

Establish and update information page on website for seniors. Weekly check-ins with counselors to review and troubleshoot needs for seniors

Schoolwide Role led by Administrator

Prioritize attention in assuring seniors complete graduation assignments. Maintain senior “checklist” processes and adjust as needed.

PLC/Teacher Role in Alignment with Schoolwide Agreements

Frequent and regular check in with families and students on any courses that students may pass.

Counselors:  initial check in and follow up as needed on outstanding graduation requirements that need attention.

Student/Family Role Engage with counselors on a regular basis to ensure student stays on track to graduate.
